Beschrijving lot

3 drawings, Indian ink, 34 x 29,5 cm (largest), one signed "OCHS".

Two figure studies (a man sitting, and male head/skull) and personal drawing to an unidentified author in search for an editor, represented as a poor man on who the starving family relies. With added text by the artist "Mon pauvre ami, si tu étais le Kaiser, il y a long temps que tu aurais trouvé un éditeur [...]". Jacques Och (1883-1971) was a Jewish Belgian artist. In 1920 he became a professor of painting at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Liège, and in 1934 he was appointed Director of the city's Musée des Beaux Arts. He was also a caricaturist, who published his sketches, illustrations, and caricatures in various newspapers including the French daily, Le Figaro, and a satirical magazine published in Brussels called "Pourquoi Pas?".
