A very vibrant and dynamic landscape drawing with a road passing through some trees at the forest edge. De Vadder was a follower of Rubens who specialised in landscape. He was active in Brussels as a painter, etcher and designer of tapestries. Like in many other drawings attributed to De Vadder the present sheet expresses a maximum of liveliness with a minimum of means, giving the drawing an almost modern flair. It can be compared to a forest landscape in the British Museum (inv. 1985,0119.3), or a drawing with same subject sold at Christie's sale (02.10.2004, lot 61).
