During the pre-scrutiny of a conclave, the gathering of the College of Cardinals convened to elect the Pope, the masters of ceremonies prepared ballot papers, same as ours, bearing the words "Eligo in Summum Pontificem" ("I elect as Supreme Pontiff") and provided at least two to each cardinal elector, where cardinals write down their votes.
