Latin manuscript, folio on vellum, c. 39,5 x 25,5 cm, [5]-56-[7] pp., expertly written in black/brown ink within a red ruled writing area, c. 30 x 19,5 cm.
Cont. sheep, covers with gilt name "FLONE", blind ruled border, sm. gilt central ornaments and corner pieces, metal clasps and catches, gilt spine on 6 raised bands, marbled endpapers, red edges, cloth fore-edge tabs (rubbed). In excellent condition.
Well executed Missale on vellum, written “ad usum [...] Joannis Hieronymi de Schroots abbatis et archidiaconi Flonens: 1741” (p. [5]). J. de Schroots was abbot of the Augustinian Flône Abbey (Amay, Liège) in the period 1725-1742. Text: Ordo/Canon Missae (pp. 1-26); Missa de Beata (pp. 26-34); In missis quotidianis defunctorum (pp. 34-end), with i.a. Dies Irae (pp. 46-49). Liturgical music on 4 black staves (pp. 17-21, 52-55). Decoration: rubricated, red ruled border around writing area. Illustration: 5 full-page painted scenes in oval frames: Virgin & Child, St Augustine of Hippo, Virgin on the Crescent, Crucifixion, Arma Christi (Instruments of the Passion). Prov. [Georges Petit].
