Landscape showing Schmidt's birthplace in Schönerlinde, near Berlin. Schmidt (1712-1775) was one of the most sought-after German etchers in the pre-Romantic era. He was inspired in his style by Rembrandt, after whom he made various copies. Only a few landscape etching of his hand are known. Second and final state.
