Folio: [6 incl. engr. front.]-454-[10] pp.; 95 pl. (map of Holland: copperplate broken, errors in page numbering, pl. 86-91 divided in 2).
French (?) armorial binding: mottled calf, gilt ruled spine and covers with coat of arms "Compensat, aequat, indicat" (tr. of wear).
French translation by François de Belleforest (1530-1583) of the Janssonius edition, offering the reader an eloquent description of the 16th-c. towns in the Low Countries by the Italian resident and author Guicciardini (1521-1589). With engr. title and 95 engr. reprinted from Blaeu's Latin edition (Amst., Janssonius, 1613), incl. maps and town plans of Belgium (Antwerp, Bruges, Liège, Namur, Ypres, etc), the Netherlands (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, etc) and Northern France (Lille, Douai, Tournai, Artois, Arras, Cambrai). All plates mentioned in the "Table des pages" are present, except for the map entitled "Berghe de S.Winoc" (Guicc. 12, pl. 73) which is in fact a view of Dunkirk with Bergues in the background and is rarely present (Touwaide lists 3 copies).
