4to: [4]-382 [= 380]-[15] pp. (sl. toned, wormtrack in blank lower marg. of pp. 223-318, some spotting, occ. contemp. ms. annot.).
18th-c. red morocco, covers with double gilt-ruled frames, gilt orn. spine with raised bands (head missing, corners and lower edge rubbed, sm. holes in head and tail, local stain on back cover).
Collection of 15 classical and mediaeval school texts on the art of rhetoric, based on an unpublished manuscript from the library of the celebrated French lawyer, humanist and scholar François Pithou (1543-1621), a pupil of Cujas and later Attorney-General at Troyes. Pithou is believed to have edited the texts himself for the present publication. Joint edition with the bookseller Ambroise Drouart (some copies bear his name on title) to whom the privilege was granted on 8 August 1598.
