2 parts in 1 vol., folio: [44]-435, [56]-650-[2 bl.] pp. (many pp. browned, marg. dampstaining, marg. wormholes, foxing).
Contemp. limp vellum, flat spine with ink title (large damp stain on front cover, ms. notes, sm. wormholes, corners dulled & one with vellum missing).
Rare 3rd edition of the translation by Denis Sauvage (1st French ed.: 1555; 1st Latin: 1550-1552). The historian and physician in Como, Giovio (1483-1552) was professor of Moral Philosophy and Natural History at the University of Rome. In 1528 he was appointed bishop of Nocera. Printer's marks on titles. Gilles Beys (1540-1595) was the son-in-law of Christophe Plantin.
