Beschrijving lot
Drawing, red chalk, 39,7 x 27 cm, laid paper with watermark (GA in circle), unsigned (sm. tears along the left edge, two tiny pin-holes bellow upper edge, minor stains).
"The Workmen surprised by a vision at the well", after a fresco cycle of 19 paintings by Ludovico Carracci (1555–1619) in San Michele del Bosco, Bologna. The sheet may have served as preparation for the engravings by Giacomo-Maria Giovannini (1667–1717) made after the paintings at around 1690.
