Stipple-etching in red ink, 51 x 36,5 cm, brown paper, signed in stone at lower left "Dessin à Rome par Michelange Slodtz" (some minor tears and stains).
Under passe-partout and gilt frame.
René Michel Slodtz, who called himself Michelange Slodtz (1705-1764) was a French sculptor who worked in the Baroque style, and was active mainly in Paris and Rome. Slodtz spent seventeen years in Rome, where he was chosen to execute a statue of St. Bruno (1744) for a niche in the nave of St Peter's. This print was made after the sculptor's drawings after Carracci's frescoes in the Palazzo Farnese.
