First edition of this work on diplomatics and codicology illustrated with 5 plates of which 4 folding (Arch of August (Susa), text transcriptions, coins), 1 woodcut in the text, the portrait of Vittorio Amadeo di Savoia and with 1 figure on title-page representing an allegory of Italy with the Colosseum on her head. Text decorated with tail- and head-pieces (one copper-engraved). Followed with an appendix on the origins of Italic peoples, especially the Etruscan and a letter of Saint John of Chrysostom to Cesario d'Arles on transubstantiation.
