Rare first ed. of the French translation of the "Philosophia rationalis sive logica" (1st Latin ed.: 1728) by Ch. Wolff (1679-1754), the most eminent German philosopher between Leibniz and Kant, whose work represents the peak of Enlightenment rationality in Germany. Wolff considers logic as the introduction to philosophy. The Prussian King Frederick II praised Wolff as "the most celebrated philosopher of our days, for having carried light into the darkest places of Metaphysics."
