Beschrijving lot

4to: 35 engr. pl. (single foxing on certain ff.). Very nice inside condition.

Contemp. marbled sheep, gilt orn. spine with raised bands, red sprinkled edges (rubbed on edges, joints split, head and tail missing).

Work (1st ed.: 1751) depicting the military campaigns of Louis XV between 1744 and 1746. Complete with the copper-engravings: title engr. by Fessard figuring the "Temple de la Gloire", 30 nice plates of medals with explanatory text below (numb. 2-31; two pl. num. 12) depicting "le portrait et caractère du Roi" and his victories in allegorical scenes (the capitulations of Menin, Ypres, Courtray, Furnes, Oudenarde, Dendermonde, Ostende, Nieuport, Ath, Tournai, Ghent, Bruges, Brussels, Mons, Charleroi, Namur, Fribourg, the Battle of Fontenoy, the campaign of Germany etc.), 3 part-titles announcing the campaigns of 1744, 1745, and 1746 and the engr. index. Gosmond (born in 1697) was a French painter, "Pensionnaire et historiographe du roi".
