Drawing, pen and brown ink, grey, blue and brown wash, 19,0 x 26,7 cm, laid paper with watermark, unsigned.
Under passe-partout.
Very attractive sheet with Italian village road, and a town in the far left distance. The use of wash and the rendering of tree leaves share a quality with the early drawings made by Pieter Stevens (1576-1626) during his Italian sojourn. The drawing was previously attributed to Jacques II de Gheyn. Architectural cartouche design on verso in grey wash over black lead.
Prov. Joseph Daniel Böhm (1794-1865), artist and art curator (Lugt 271 and 730, and bears his initials, verso, Lugt 272) . - Michael Ingram (Lugt1405; sold at Sotheby's sale 08/12/2005, no. 81).
