Drawing, pen and brown ink, 13,5 x 12 cm, ivory laid paper, unsigned (some brown spots).
Under passe-partout, in richly orn. wooden frame (not studied outside frame).
Figure sketch with a dancing woman at centre and a second on the right holding a tambourine. A third woman is seated in the foreground. The sketchy outlines of a fourth dancing woman can be seen on the left. A cityscape on the background. The sheet shows much affinity with drawings signed and attributed to the Italian draughtsman and painter Francesco Allegrini (1587-1663). In particular the diagonal hatching corresponds to many of Allegrini's drawings, such as the study of a "Male Beggar" in the Minneapolis Institute of Art (inv. 2009.53.47), or "The Birth of the Virgin" at the Chicago Art Institute (inv. 1922.2839).
