Original ed. (repr. 1658) of an early work on atomism by Magnenus (1600-1670), a French physician at Pavia University. His importance in the history of science derives from his attempt to reinstate the Democritean theory of atomism as a respectable part of 17th-c. natural philosophy. The book was instrumental in establishing a comprehensive alternative to Aristotelianism. Engraved mark on title. A number of woodcut diagrams.
