Beschrijving lot
Wash drawing, pencil heightened with watercolour, 39,6 x 53,5 cm, laid paper; monogrammed "EVM" and dated "53" at lower right corner and "1853" at the bottom centre (top corners with very min. dam., left side badly cut, very min. fox.).
Stuck by top edge on paper.
Historical representation of one of the many battles between the Spanish troops and the armies from our regions by the Belgian painter Édouard Van Marcke (Liège 1815-1884), who enjoyed part of his training in Paris and was active for a while as a porcelain painter in Sèvres. Subsequently mainly operating in Liège, where he was also appointed as professor at the local Academy of Fine Arts.
