Rare edition from the famous anonymous Dresden private press named after Hieronymus Emser (1478-1527), secretary of George "the Bearded", Duke of Saxony (1471-1539). Andrzej Krzycki (1482-1537), Polish humanist bishop of Płock, in 1524 published the booklet in Kraków, followed by reprints in Dresden, Regensburg, Rome, Speyer and Strasbourg, all in the same year. It consists of a letter addressed to King Sigismund I, asserting that Luther made priests of layman, whores of nuns, and incited acts of sacrilege and social disorder. It was accompanied by satirical anti-Reformation verses, mocking Luther as a man who believed in nothing, a horned monster born to a Saxon cow, the heir of Wyclif and Hus. Title within elaborate woodcut border.
