Beschrijving lot
Lucas Vorsterman Jr., 18th c., 36,5 x 46,7 cm, copper engraving (remargined, stain in the middle of left hand side). Good copy.
Unique copy (1st state ?) of the by Lucas Vorsterman Junior engraved map of the Ducal Palace at Brussels. Dedication to Philip IV. It was intended for the "Chorographia sacra Brabantiae" of Sanderus, also published in the "Stedeboek" of Blaeu. Title, dedication in the cartouche and key to the monuments are handwritten. On this copy the coats-of-arms of Spain and of Brabant, most of the characters, horses, etc., are not yet engraved. A very clear dry point drawing is visible but not worked out. The trees in the park around are smaller than the ones on the well-known plate. No name of the engraver near the lower edge.Cp. L. Dankaert, Bruxelles, cinq siècles de cartographie, p. 45.
