8vo: [6]-271-[9] pp. (lower corner of front. reinforced, tiny holes - due to paper quality - on p. 147 touching some letters, repairs to pp. 178-179, pp. 188 & 259 upper gutter reinforced).

Contemp. blindst. panelled speckled calf (corners bumped), spine with 5 raised bands (joints splitting).

Fourth corrected and enlarged edition (first 1659) of this popular guide to geography and astronomy by the hydrographer to Charles II, maker of globes and mathematical instruments and English printer specialising in mathematical books and maps, Joseph Moxon (1627-1691). Ill. with an engr. front.-portr. Numerous woodcuts and engravings in text such as Atlas carrying the heavens on his shoulders. Loosely based on Blaeu's "Institutio astronomica", this treatise is designed as a sales tool for the globes, maps and instruments available at Moxon's establishment in London. In the introduction Moxon makes clear that his globes are the most up-to-date available and that they incorporate the latest geographical findings such as the Dutch discoveries of "Hollandia Nova, Zelandia Nova and Anthoni Van Dieman's Land".
