4to: [17 incl. engr. title (of 19: lacking *ii and *iii)]-154 (ff. 125-128 bound after 132)-[6] ff. (title underl. with lacks of paper in the margins, marg. lacks of paper throughout mostly on upper magins, some sm. lacks in the text, some soiling and spotting).

19th-c. burgundy shagreen (spine sl. faded and rubbed). Sold w.a.f.; no subject to return.

First edition of the revision by Béroalde de Verville (1556-1626) of the translation by J. Martin of the famous "Poliphilo Hypnerotomachia", attributed to Fr. Colomna. Ill. with a nice alligorical engr. title (lacking in our copy) and 64 woodcuts in-text, coming from the 1561 edition by Kerver, after the drawings attributed to J. Gougon or J. Cousin. The phallic plates were censored.
