Contemp. overl. vellum (sl. soiled), flat spine titled in ink. Good copy.
First edition of this extensive biography of St Begga (d. 693) in defence of the thesis that she initiated the phenomenon of Beguines and the like. Ill. with engr. author's portrait and 8 (of 9) engr. full-page pl. Woodcut mark on title. Title in red & black. The last part of this work contains a lot of historical data about beguinage in the Southern Netherlands, i.a. Geraardsbergen, Leuven, Tienen, Mechelen, Bruges, Ghent, Dendermonde, Oudenaarde, ...
