Publisher's binding in the "cathedral binding"-style: morocco, with blindstamped gothic arched porch on the upper cover and gilt medallion with allegorical scene by R. Schubert on lower cover, satin endlvs, gilt edges.
Complete one-volume edition, first published in the same year as the 2nd two-volume edition, but with an abbreviated introductory text and only 36 chromolithographs depicting various monuments and churches in Aarschot, Antwerp, Bruges, Brussels, Kortrijk, Dinant, Ghent, Halle, Huy, Léau, Liège, Lier, Leuven, Mechelen, Mons, Namur and Tournai. Although Van der Marck mentions only one single-volume edition, on the title-page, it is described as a second edition. The work received "La médaille de première classe" at the Exposition Universelle of 1855 held on the Champs-Élysées in Paris.
