8vo: [16]-233-[5-2 bl.], [7-1 bl.]-251-[5] pp. (first quire loosening, ai-a7 underlaid, touching some of the printed surface on the first 2 lvs, quire p loosening, dampstains on the margins of the first and last quires).
Contemp. vellum (upper corner sl. def.), flat spine, leather ties.
Second edition (first 1609), the same year a Paris ed. was publ. containing a 3rd part. This ed. ill. with an engr. portr. of L. Bourgeois by de Courbes. L. Bourgeois (1563-1636) was a French midwife, called "The Scholar" by her contemporaries. She was a student of Ambroise Paré and later on midwife to King Henry IV of France. The first part was the first book on obstetrics publ. by a midwife, used as a vade mecum until the 18th c. Title in red & black. Woodcut on title.
