Folio: [1, 1 bl., 1, 1 bl., 8]-55-[1 bl.] pp. (clear dampstaining with occ. mouldy spots, min. thumbing).
Old half leather, marbled paper on covers, spine on 5 raised bands (rubbed). Good copy.
First Latin ed. by Heinrich Schmitz of "Theatrum machinarum novum, das ist, Neu-vermehrter Schauplatz der mechanischen Künsten" by G.A. Böckler (1617-1678), German engineer and architect to the city of Nürnberg. It is one of the earliest manuals on the construction of mills and water-machineries. Engr. ill. (complete): front. by V. Sommer after G. Böckler and 154 numb. full-page plates (good impressions) showing all kinds of elaborately designed mills for e.g. powder, paper, drilling, flour- and sawmills, fire-engines and pumps. Some plates with German text.
