Very rare first edition of the commentary on Ovid's Metamorphoses by the painter and poet Karel van Mander (1548-1606), intended to be used by painters, poets and art lovers. This work was originally publ. as the 3rd part of the 1st ed. of van Mander's famous "Schilder-boeck", but is bound here separately, complete in itself. Ill. with engr. title by Matham after van Mander and full-page engr. portrait of van Mander by J. Saenredam after H. Goltzius. With 2nd part "Uutbeeldinge der figueren: waer in te sien is hoe d'heydenen hun goden uytghebeeldt en onderscheyden hebben [...]" with own title page (f. 123). Large woodcut initials. Printed in gothic type.
