Description du lot
Engraving, 18,5 x 14,5 cm, laid paper (some light foxing).
Mirrored copy with face to the right, 2 lines of Latin text and the name of Orlandi (died in 1640) at bottom right. The original, dated 1565-1612?, face left, with 3 lines of text and the name of Custos, an Antwerp-born artist who made his carreer in Ausgburg, at bottom left. Helena Antonia Galeckha (Liège 1550-1595) was a bearded female dwarf at the court of Maria of Bavaria. She was aged 18 when Custos (died in 1615) etched her portrait. Widely published, it contributed to her stardom and many print collections now own copies. The Orlandi copy is more rare.
