Folio: [20]-865-[1 bl.] pp. (browning throughout, marg. spotting).

Contemp. gold-tooled vellum (sl. soiled), both covers with large central gilt arms of Amsterdam within double gilt ruled armorial border with gilt armorial corner pieces, gilt spine with 6 raised bands and arms in each panel, green ties. Nice example of a prize-binding.

Major Greek-Latin ed. by the German scholar J.C. Wolff (1683-1739) of the letters of the Greek philosopher Libanius Sophista (4th c.). "1545 letters have been preserved, more letters than those of Cicero. Some 400 additional letters in Latin were later accepted, purporting to be translations, but were demonstrated to be misattributed or forgeries by the Italian humanist Francesco Zambeccari in the 15th century, in a dispassionate examination of the texts themselves."
