Modern three-quarter calf, marbled paper covers, spine with raised bands gilt ruled, red sprinkled edges (sl. rubbed).
Work divided in 3 parts presenting the ecclesiastical history in England and Wales through a list of its various monasteries, abbeys and other religious houses by orders and congregations (Benedictines with Cluniacs, Cistercians, Carthusians, Augustinians with Templars, Hospitalers, Praemonstratenses and cathedral and collegiate churches). Illustrated with 15 plates showing monks and nuns of different orders with their identifiable religious outfits. The work also contains a catalogue and a table of the various religious establishments and a part with French, Irish and Scottish monasteries relating to England.
