No binding, loose in larger contemp. vellum covered boards. Very good copy.
1st ed. of this important early work on Christian archaeology, esp. on the Catacombs, by the Italian Jesuit scholar Lupi (1695-1737). Ill. with 20 engravings (9 full-page, 6 folding, 5 in text) and numerous woodcut reproductions of inscriptions throughout, etc., mostly in Latin and Greek. They had been found several years previously in a cemetery near Rome. Lupi demonstrates from the evidence that the female Christian martyr Severa had been buried there. Engr. arms on title.
