2 vols in 12mo: [26 incl. Fp.]-592-[19], [4]-414-[8]-140-[19] pp.; 14 border coloured and 12 b/w pls (Vol. 2: upper margin sl. dampstained, paper damage p. 161, small defects, a couple of maps cut a bit short).
Cont. full calf, gilt spine on 5 raised bands (partially split, weak joints, defective headband, sl. bumped corners).
Fifth edition (1st ed.: 1677 or 1678) of this geographical manual including a treatise about the art of navigation by the French engineer and royal geographer Jacques Robbe (1643-1721), also known as Barquebois. This work includes an engraved title by Guérard, 14 coloured maps in the first volume showing the Netherlands, the Habsburg empire, Spain, France e.g., while there are in the 2nd vol. 11 black and white maps of Africa, India, Japan, South-America, e.g., all by Nicolas de Fer, and 1 navigational chart. Both vols with some small in-text engrs. The second vol. is dedicated to Louis-Auguste de Bourbon, duke of Maine (1670 - 1736). Ref. Bn-Opale plus.
