Large folio (marg. foxing to the pl., marg. dampstain to pl. 11).
Cont. three-quarter black shagreen, covers of black cloth, front cover titled in gilt and with the mention "India proofs", spine on raised bands (rubbed, leather lacking at tail, joints split).
Illustrated with 16 mounted plates on India paper (incl. 5B) of which 4 nice meotints and some tinted or partly hand-coloured plates. Included are the Ducal Palace (the twentieth capital, compartments of the southern balcony), Arabian windows (in Campo Santa Maria Mater Domini), cornice mouldings (from a tomb in the church of SS Giovanni and Paolo), the southern portico of St Mark's, etc. All plates accompanied with explanatory texts and protected with tissue guards. "One the few copies printed on hand-made paper with plates on India paper" (cfr ms. note on front flyleaf). The first edition was published in 1851. Prov. G.E.L. (crowned bookpl.).
