Rather scarce 1st edition of Haüy's last work "containing the culmination of his studies in crystallography. It greatly enlarges the number of species described but the theory first published in his "Essai d'une théorie" (Paris 1784) remains essentially the same" (Schuh). Atlas complete with 84 numb. engr. plates representing numerous crystal forms. The French priest and mineralogist Haüy (1743-1822) is known as one of the founders of modern crystallography. "Développant sa théorie structurale à partir du début des années 1780, le savant abbé énonce deux lois fondamentales de la cristallographie géométrique : celle de symétrie et celle des troncatures simples.
