Description du lot
4to: [42 (of 43)] ff. (last f. with ill. missing, foxing, sometimes extensive, tear strengthened in f. [2], ill. XXII engr. upside down, ms. entry sl. erased on title).
19th-c. black marbled paper cardboard, yellow edges (rubbed).
Rare first edition illustrated with 39 (of 40) copperplates in-text by Christoph Murer (1558-1614). The 40 illustrations were first intended to illustrated the dramatic comedy "Von den Drangsalen der christlich-edessenischen Kirchen in Mesopotamien", that was banned by the censorship before printing. Eight years after Murer's death, J.H. Rordorf (1591-1680), glass painter in Zurich, pupil and son-in-law of the poet and topografer Jos Murer, transformed Murer's illustrations in emblems accompanied with a moralising sextet and titles in German and Latin.
