Only edition of a curious physiological and mystical treatise on female beauty by Antwerp artist and teacher of Rubens, Otto Van Veen (Latinised Vaenius, 1556-1629), structured as a commentary on the Song of Songs, but also conceived as an examination of the female physiognomy and its correspondence to emotions, beauty, and to certain animal types. Ill. with 8 copper-engr. full-pages (showing 2 figures each) and 13 in-text ill. (one on title).
