Splendid collection of bio-bibliographies and portraits of some 30 scholars of the young Leiden University (founded 1575), edited by J. Meursius (1579-1639). Included are i.a. Arminius, Clusius, Dodoens, Dousa, Gomarus, Grotius, Heinsius, Lipsius, Marnix, Raphelengius, Scaliger, Vulcanius. Latin verses by J. Dousa, H. Junius, D. Rogers a.o.; Greek poems by J. Forestus and B. Vulcanius. Engr. title by Willem Swanenburg and 35 full-page engr. portraits of William of Orange and of Leiden scholars, as well as an engr. showing Scaliger’s funeral monument.
