Successful travel journey, here in a 2nd ed. (1st 1875), ill. with 111 full-page woodcuts, 6 maps (of which 1 sm. in-text) and numerous smaller woodcuts. L. Rousselet (1845-1929), photographer and pioneer of the darkroom, traveled to India from 1864 to 1868 and published the compilation of his notes, drawings and photographs 7 years later. The drawings after his photographs became an important visual source of 19th-c. India.
