2 vol., lge folio: [6]-lxiii-[1 bl.]-147, [4]-358 pp.; 90 pl. (occ. marg. tears without loss, light spotting mainly maginal).
Contemp. mottled calf, gilt-orn. boards with a wide listel in a different shade, gilt-orn. spines with raised bands and labels, marbled edges (sl. rubbed, light damp stains). Nice large margins copy.
Dutch translation of Dumont's "Histoire militaire du prince Eugène de Savoie, du prince et duc de Marlborough, et du prince de Nassau-Frise [...]" (1st 1720), thoroughly describing battles of the War of the Spanish Succession and against the Ottomans. Superbly ill. with 90 pl. outside coll. (mainly double-p., some fold.), mainly captioned in French: 1 portrait of Prince Eugene, 8 maps, 68 plans of battles and/or cities incl. Antwerp, Bruges, Brussels, Belgrade, Ulm, Landau, Lille, Tournai, Mons, Ypres, etc., 13 spectacular battle scenes by J. van Huchtenburg depicting i.a. Coni, Zenta, Chiari, Luzzara, Höchstadt, Cassano, Turin, Oudenaarde, Geldern, Malplaquet, etc. Many in-text engr. incl. i.a. 2 title-vign. by J. van Huchtenburg and L. Schenk and baroque cartouches with battle diagrams in head of each chapter in vol. 1, head- and tailpieces (some signed B. Picart 1725). Also 6 tables outside coll. With 4 add. ff. = pp. 81[bis], 82[bis], 135[bis] (vol. 1), xxxvii[bis] (vol. 2).
