52 etchings, c. 11,9 x 14,6 cm, laid paper, on title plate "LES JEUX / ET / PLAISRIS [sic] DE L'ENFANCE / invantez par JACQUES STELLA / et gravez par CLAUDINE BOUZOUNET STELLA / A PARIS / aux Galleries du Louvre chez la ditte Stella / AVEC RPIVILEGE [sic] DU ROY 1657", French text, numb. 1-50 (few marg. spots).

Good impressions with wide margins. Excellent condition. Contemp. calf, covers with gilt-ruled border, gilt-orn. spine with raised bands and title, gilt sides and inside dentelles, marbled endpapers, a.e.g. (rubbed, head and tail sl. def.).

Complete set including title, coat of arms of Jacques-Auguste II de Thou (1609-1677) and all 50 children's games. Charming series by the female engraver Claudine Bouzonnet Stella (1636-1697) after designs by her uncle Jacques Stella (1596-1657). Claudine was trained by Jacques and continued his business after his death.
