19th-c. gold-tooled chestnut morocco by [Antoine] Chatelin (1820-1890), covers with gilt double ruled frames and corner pieces, gilt spine, a.e.g., gilt inside dentelles. Very good copy.
Rare polemical essay by Frémont d’Ablancourt (1621-1693) in defense of his uncle Nicolas Perrot d’Ablancourt (1606-1664), French translator of the Greek and Latin classics. The language and style of Perrot’s translations had been attacked by a translator of the next generation, Abraham-Nicolas Amelot de La Houssaie (1634-1706).
