Contemp. three-quarter green shagreen, marbled paper boards with gilt fillet, gilt-orn. spines with raised bands, gilt top edges (faded spines, joints starting to split, dulled corners).

First 8vo edition (1st ed. folio under the title "Illustrations of British birds": 1835-1841 & 1837-1844) with vol. 1-2 from a later edition. Various number of pl. from one copy to another. Ours with 434 lithogr. pl. of which 426 hand-coloured and 8 in black. H.L. Meÿer (1797-1865) was a British artist and naturalist.
