Contemp. limp overl. vellum, ink-titled spine with raised bands, traces of ties (sl. soiled). Good copy.
Very rare collection of Latin political quotations from Greek and Latin historians, philosophers and orators. One modern author included, also in Latin: Philippe de Commines (1445-1509). L. Daneau (1530-1595) was a restless French Calvinist minister. After a short period as a theology professor at Leiden University, he taught theology at the Ghent Athenaeum (1582-1583) and returned to France. This anthology was dedicated to the government of the County of Flanders: "Gandavi, quae est Flandriae Metropolis", 1 March 1583. At the end he announces his own forthcoming French version, which so it seems, was never published. Woodcut Plantin mark on title.
