Folio: title and 61 pl. (sl. marg. dampstaining, some marg. foxing, occ. sl. soiling).
Contemp. three-quarter sheep, blue marbled paper boards, gilt-ruled flat spine (very used, lack of leather to spine).
First edition illustrated with 61 plates with 99 copper-engr. views after drawings by the French painter and engraver Barbault (1718-1762), already partly used in two works published in the same year and in 1761. It depicts the Castel Sant'Angelo, the Pantheon, the Tombs of the Scipios and of Caecilia Metella, the Ponte Rotto or Pons Aemilius, the Temple of Clitumnus in Umbria nearby Spoleto, the Arch of Augustus in Rimini, remains of the water tower of Marcia on Esquiline Hill near St. Eusebius, the Verona arena, some statues, altars, etc. Vignette on title.
