2 vol., 4to: [8]-1/221-[2]-313/476 [= 500]-[36], [4]-1/336 [= 344]-[4]-337/598 [= 600]-[56] pp.; 5 pl. (pp. browned - some much -, foxing, often extensive, sl. marg. damp stains at end of vol. I and in vol. II, 2 pl. in vol. I browned, jump of pagination from 221 to 313 in vol. I but complete, sm. marg. stain in begin. of vol. I, marg. tears with lack in begin. of vol. I and one strengthened to p. 155 of vol. II).
Mod. half vellum, marbled paper boards, blind-titled and orn. flat spines (sm. def. at front joint of vol. I).
First edition published posthumously of a work on Florence by the monk, philologist and art collector Borghini (1515-1580). About the origins of the city, its heraldry, church and bishops, coins, Tuscany and its cities, etc. Illustrated with 5 fold. plates, 2 engr. recto verso (Baptistery of St-John, the Amphitheatre, statues found in its foundations, epigraphy), full-page or in-text coat of arms and 2 medallion portraits of the author; printer's mark on titles and at end. According to Gamba the 2nd vol. is more rare than the first.
