Hinged at upper edge. Under passe-partout.
2nd state of the 1st ovoid map of Flanders oriented towards the North Sea, that Mercator is said to have not only drawn, but also engraved. From Abraham Ortelius's 1575 "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum". Only 100 copies of this ed. were printed. Latin text on verso (leaf 21, no pagination).
