Mercator's famous wall map from 1540, of which the only surviving copy hangs in the Museum Plantin-Moretus, here published in a smaller version by Gerard de Jode after the Rome edition by M. Tramezzino. Delicately hand-coloured copy of this rare first state with imprint, published in the 1578 "Speculum Orbis Terrarum" (leaf Nn, foliation XXXVI).
