Black and coloured chalk, 10,5 x 20,2 cm, laid paper, signed and dedicated "à F. Hellens / Fernand Khnopff" (some losses, sm. tear in corner).

Mounted on passe-partout.

Design drawing by Fernand Khnopff (1858-1921) for one of his ceiling paintings commissioned for the monumental wedding hall of Saint-Gilles city hall in 1914. The composition, sfumato effect and shape of the sheet closely correspond with the preserved ceiling painting.
