First English edition of Hedin's account of his journey from Tehran to India through the Persian deserts. Illustrated with 2 fold. maps in colour, 3 fold. plans and 198 plates, some in colour, reproductions of photos by the author. Hedin (1865-1952), Swedish topographer and explorer made the Transhimalaya known in the West and located sources of the Brahmaputra, Indus and Sutlej Rivers. He also mapped lake Lop Nor, the Great Wall of China in the deserts of the Tarim Basin, etc.
