Copperplate, 14,2 x 8,7 cm, signed and dated "G. Kneller Eques Pinxit 1697 / B. Picart sculp. 1721", French text (sl. oxidised, few sm. scratches).
Portrait of the English philosopher and physician John Locke (1632-1704). Engraved by Bernard Picart (1673-1733) after the famous painting by Gottfried Kneller (1646-1723) in Saint Petersburg (State Hermitage Museum, inv. ГЭ-1345). Impressions of this plate are in numerous collections such as Amsterdam (Rijksmuseum, inv. RP-P-OB-51.033).
