Mod. half calf, spine on 4 raised bands. Good copy.
2nd edition (1st June 1525) of a defense of Henry VIII against Luther’s “Von der babylonischen Gefangenschaft der Kirche” (1520). John Fisher (1459-1535), bishop of Rochester and Chancellor of Cambridge University, was executed in 1535 by order of Henry VIII for refusing to accept the king as Supreme Head of the Church of England. He was canonised, with Thomas More, on 19 May 1935 by Pope Pius XI. The work was edited by the Cologne Dominican Johann Romberck (1480-1533). Ref.
